According to wikipedia, the US has a strain that is a milder form that spares the heart.

Another reminder about snakes. Poisonous or non-poisonous, your best bet is to leave them alone. Even non-poisonous snakes can cause you some grief because:

    1) The bite is going to hurt like hell. Poisonous or not.

    and

    2) You can still get a nasty infection. All wild animals carry nasty bacteria in their mouths.

Kind of late in the game, but I thought this would be a great tip:

If you've got a tick already stuck in you, the best thing I've found is to apply Vicks VapoRub as soon as you can. They rear their ugly-ass heads and back out almost immediately!

Has anyone ever come across a "viper pit" in an abandonment? Seems like a pretty scary situation ....

If there was a Dodge Viper in an abandonment, and you found it, you might be the luckiest explorer ever!

    Don't forget .....

Histoplasmosis, a disease spread by pigeon crap, real nasty and causes blindness.

Unsound flooring, you know you found it when the next words you hear are "oh shit"

Electrified wiring, unlikely but still occasionally found.

What about drifters, hobos, and junkies? Not trying to be funny, they can pose a legitimate threat especially if you are exploring closer to the city.

When someone asks you to come inside of "their" abandoned building to get warm around their campfire you know it's time to leave.

Same thing with rubbing alcohol, they can't stand it, nasty disease carrying buggers.
