    Default Recommendations for explorers.

    A thread to help explain:

What you wish you knew when you started exploring.

What pisses you off about other explorers [without having to single them out.]

    What not to do...

    etc...

Some things that piss me off about other explorers are people who just go to places not to admire them but to write their name all over the place so people can know how hardcore they are and that they were there first. Going along with that when I first started exploring I wish I wrote my name less at some places I went to.

there were a couple places I went to recently, and found normal entry points sealed up.

I wish people were more considerate to see that leaving a door or window wide open raises suspision, which can ruin it for everyone.

That desk drawer wasn't helping anything either. Too bad it was raining.

I'm going to assume that includes my WWFLD, but just so you know... most of the "WWFLD"'s you see on chalkboards, on walls, and on stickers were not planted by me, in fact many locations that I have never been to have quite a few "WWFLD" tags in them.

in other words, I have many imposters. Bwhahaha

Really didn't know what the heck I was doing at first, so didn't have masks and a flashlight on my first casual exploring. Not familiarizing myself with the features of my camera enough to confidently take good pictures.

What annoys me are the people who vandalize places like the Kirk in NJ -- which ruins it for the rest of us that do it for other than tagging and scrapping. Another thing... fellow explorers who do not have a quiet voice. Last thing I want is to get caught because someone's talking above a normal speaking voice. Finally... ones that don't pay attention to what they're stepping on, etc. I know there are things that you can't avoid and you make noises but hitting a chair or a canister, something big that obviously blocking you is annoying.

What not to do -- go exploring without a CamelBak. I really am glad that I bought that thing. I don't end up with headaches from being dehydrated. Not having gloves. Saves me from cuts.

Well Im not going to get upset over a sticker, some chalk, or a small sharpied name somehwere, its things like seeing a name 30 times in one location or huge graff all over the place. Its rediculous.

And Breviceps, I hate camel backs, canteens till the day I die!!

I hate it when other explorers wear non-matchng socks. wtf.

and the loud noises thing, i agree with breviceps... it depends on the place, but generally its a good idea to be kinda quiet in the buildings. you dont want to startle any other people that may be in there with you that you might not know about, whether they are scrappers, vandals, authorities, or even other explorers.

Nalgene Soldat! Only drink from US-made Nalgene! BP-A is no joke.

    Bring snacks and water.
Don't explore with illegal drugs, seriously.
    Wear clean underwear.
Pay for your share of gas.
    Wear sunscreen.
Don't whore out the location database.
    That's about it.

I have two explanations for that. They're either:

    A. Had too much chemical refreshments prior to the exploration.
    B. They're color-blind.

Don't forget the legal drugs... belligerent explorers are usually bad negotiators when it comes to dealing with the authorities... plus, please pack out what you pack in. Seeing empty beer cans or cigarette packs is annoying

Yes DEET is your best friend but not your camera's. DEET and plastic do not get along well with each other, so wash your hands after coming in contact with bug repellant that contains DEET.

The ones I bought advertise with large labels that they are BP-A free, even though they are made of Number 7 plastic.

Are non-US made bottles still made of BP-A?

ALWAYS explore while drunk. It's a much better experience for everyone involved.

NEVER bring a camera. Cameras are for fags.

Might as well go stainless if you are using a hard bottle anyways

Yeah, it eats away the plastic. A substitute that you can use is an ingredient called Picaridin. It's not as great as DEET but it's better than ruining your gear.
